Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao hearing the chants of “Manny! Manny!” as he comes close to the scale inside the Encore Theater at The Wynn resort on Friday. Senator Pacquiao fighting for history against Vargas.
Manny Pacquiao relied on strict discipline and deferred his political duties as a Philippine senator while preparing for Saturday’s fight against Jessie Vargas. Manny at age 37, aims to become the first sitting senator to win a boxing world title. The Pacquiao-Vargas fight could be an entertaining bout in boxing needs. Many fans were not expecting nor craving for a Manny Pacquiao-Jessie Vargas fight. But at least it’s happening, and it could be exciting enough to help boost the sport of boxing’s downfall image today.
Pacquiao, already the first congressman to win a world title, is badly aiming to be the first senator in history to win a boxing title, also. Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KOs) said he is also very motivated to win back the world title he lost against Floyd Mayweather last year in boxing’s most highly anticipated fight. Later on Jessie Vargas won the vacant title in March with a ninth-round knockout against the then-undefeated former U.S. Olympian Sadam Ali.
Vargas (27-1, 10 KOs), 27, of Las Vegas, has been supremely confident about the fight and had a big smile as he walked to the scale. It remained in place when he spoke to the crowd after making weight.
