Chocoholics are going crazy with the new shape of UK Toblerone chocolates.
Our favorite chocolate bar has changed it shape but candy lovers called the move “stupid” and “wrong decision”.
Mondelez International, makers of Toblerone have increased the gap between the peaks to reduce the weight of 400g and 170g bars.
In a statement posted on the Toblerone Facebook page, the company said it had to either change the look of the bars or raise the price. It reads:
“Toblerone remains one of the best value and most delicious Swiss chocolate products in the market. This is because we always work hard to ensure we offer value for money for our consumers, but like many other companies, we are experiencing higher costs for numerous ingredients. We carry these costs for as long as possible, but to ensure Toblerone remains on-shelf, is affordable and retains the triangular shape, we have had to reduce the weight of just two of our bars in the UK, from the wider range of available Toblerone products.”
Meanwhile, a Toblerone spokesperson said: “Like many other companies, unfortunately we are experiencing higher costs for many ingredients.
“We carry these costs for as long as possible, but to ensure Toblerone remains on shelf, is affordable and retains the iconic shape we all know and love, we have had to reduce the weight of this particular bar. “The 150g bar is part of a wider range of available Toblerone products.
“Needless to say that the special recipe of Toblerone stays the same as loved by millions of consumers around the globe.”
“Like all food manufacturers, we sometimes have to make changes to ensure that people can continue to buy their favourite chocolate brands, at affordable prices, whilst also making sure we look after our manufacturing footprint in the UK and the 4,500 people we employ here. This change is only on two bars in the wide range of Toblerone products available with the 150g bar predominantly being sold in Poundland.” They added.
All 400g bars have been reduced to 360g, and for 170g bars to 150g, while the packaging size stays the same.
Christmas is approaching and chocolates especially Toblerone bars are mostly kids’ favorite and often given as gifts. So would you mind the gap?
