M&M’s is launching a brand new flavor – a caramel-filled center covered with chocolate and coated with colorful candy shells.

M&M’s Caramel Chocolate Candies slated to hit shelves in May 2017, parent company Mars Chocolate revealed on Tuesday. They also announced that the said M&M flavor spent a little over two years in the making.


“Chocolate and caramel is such a popular flavor combination, especially with the fans of M&M’S,” Tanya Berman, brand director of M&M’S brand, said in a statement. “In our research, our fans were enthusiastic at the possibility of a caramel variant.”

Caramel M&M’s will be a permanent item, intended to tap into the $2.2 billion caramel business unlike other previous temporary additions include coffeenut, pumpkin spice, coconut and carrot cake.
