Lee Kuan Yew was a Singaporean politician. He was the first Prime Minister of Singapore, governing for three decades. He is widely recognised as the founding father of modern Singapore and also “Architect of Modern Singapore”.

PM Lee Hsien Loong is deeply grieved to announce the passing of his father Mr Lee Kuan Yew, the founding Prime Minister of Singapore. Mr Lee passed away peacefully at the Singapore General Hospital today at 3.18am. He was 91.

He has declared a period of National Mourning from 23 March (Monday) to 29 March (Sunday).

As a mark of respect to the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, the State flags on all Government buildings will be flown at half-mast from today to Sunday.

The whole nation is mourning as there are no entertainment segments of any form of media in the country. All radio stations are playing sad music to express their condolences.

A lot of Singaporeans expressing their love and gratitude to the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, and truly saddened that the founding father of modern Singapore didn’t reach the 50th year of independence celebration of Singapore.

Truly Mr Lee Kuan Yew was a great leader of our times.
