Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes in the post zombie apocalypse series The Walking Dead, posted a letter to all the fans about his exit after 9 seasons. Posted on Facebook, Andrew is very thankful to all the people who supported his journey throughout the years.
This is sadder than a break-up. I can’t imagine the show without Rick Grimes. I have watched the show since the beginning and his role is truly phenomenal. It hurts to see him go.
During the Comic-Con panel, Lincoln decided to kick off the day by confirming the news that he’d be leaving the show after Season 9. He announced:
“This will be my last season playing the part of Rick Grimes,” Lincoln said to a chorus of wails from the fans in Hall H. “Now, hear me out please. I love this show, it means everything to me. I love the people who make this show. I promise not to cry. I’ve done enough crying on screen. I’m particularly fond of the people who watch this show, you people. This has been the most extraordinary, amazing and beautiful experience of my career, made largely because of you guys and the relationship we have here with you in this room and also in the rooms across America and the rest of the world. I just want to thank you.”
Lincoln promises that it’s going to be one of the best we’ve seen in years. In fact, he revealed that there will be two episodes in Season 9 that are his personal favorites since the pilot! In case you did not catch the Easter eggs on last Sunday’s episode titled “Warning Signs,” the 903 ep may have just revealed how Rick Grimes is leaving. Enjoy.
